Chris Adriaan is a spatial artist focusing on sculpture and installation art in public space. His work departs from a strong spatial way of thinking, informed by his background as an architect. Drawing on that background, he works across multiple scales at once and realizes integrated art commissions in both complex urban and natural contexts.

His work is site-specific and responds to the history, use, and social context of a place. He regularly works with participatory processes in which residents' stories and memories are translated into a physical, spatial form. That collective input carries substantive weight: the work emerges through interaction with its surroundings and the people who use them. This generates engagement with both the place and the work.

The sculptures and installations that result make people curious about a place and invite wonder. They function as objects, as spatial gestures, and often as places of use: a meeting point or a route. Those who slow down and discover, remember. Many of his works thus become a place for new memories.
