Folly Darkness

Due to increasing light pollution, we see less darkness at night. The Netherlands, one of the most illuminated places on earth, suffers a biodiversity loss due to excessive lighting. It is crucial to highlight, experience, and preserve darkness in the country's darkest spots for future generations.

Folly Duisternis in Het MOW's museum garden shifts your perspective from horizontal to vertical, offering an unfiltered view of the sky to experience true darkness.

The folly has two cubes. The first, open at both ends, provides a horizontal view. Entering the second cube through a wall opening, with its top open, offers a vertical view of the sky. Lying on a bench, you watch the sky, gradually darkening as stars appear, allowing you to experience true darkness.
