Pontis Limes

Woerden - Singelkunst - 2025 - 4,44 x 2,28 m. - Acrylic Paint on plywood

Woerden, with its origins in the Roman Castellum Laurium from 41 AD, carries a rich history. This artwork, on the Singel shore of Woerden, represents an abstract Roman bridge. The stacked supports, aligned with the flow of the canal, gradually change in shape and orientation, with the highest support completely shifting direction, creating a connection across.

This dynamic symbolizes how a change in perspective can lead to new connections and interconnectedness. The reflection in the water reinforces the idea of a bridge between the tangible and intangible worlds. Pontis Limes, Latin for bridge on the border of the ancient Roman empire. The deep blue color of the sky, imbue the artwork with a mysterious, immaterial quality.
